Border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia are intensifying despite mediation efforts by Malaysia, the United States and ASEAN. Thailand’s army said no ceasefire is in place and accused Cambodian forces of rocket attacks on civilian areas in Sisaket Province, killing one person. Cambodia, meanwhile, accused Thailand of airstrikes on civilian infrastructure in Pursat Province, reporting multiple deaths, injuries and mass displacement.
Fighting has continued since December 7, even after Malaysia proposed a ceasefire backed by the U.S., which Cambodia accepted but Thailand denied. Diplomatic efforts have so far failed, raising regional concern as ASEAN faces pressure to help de-escalate the conflict and push both sides back to dialogue.
