The United Nations General Assembly has approved a new treaty to fight cybercrime worldwide. This is the first such agreement in over 20 years. It aims to improve international cooperation against crimes like terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and online financial scams. The treaty also focuses on helping victims, protecting human rights online, and providing technical support to countries.
The treaty will be open for signing next year in Hanoi, Vietnam, and will take effect once 40 countries approve it. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised the treaty as a way to create a safer internet and urged all countries to join. It highlights the importance of working together to stop cybercrimes and protect people online.
