Tesla has updated its autopilot software in China, adding a city navigation feature, a limited version of its U.S. Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. The update includes automatic lane changes, traffic light detection, and driver attention monitoring. However, due to insufficient data training on Chinese roads, it remains restricted in functionality.
Tesla faces challenges in deploying full FSD in China, delaying its rollout to 2025. Meanwhile, domestic competitors like BYD, Xiaomi, and Huawei have introduced advanced smart-driving systems, often for free, making Tesla’s paid FSD option less competitive.
Additionally, Chinese automakers are integrating DeepSeek’s AI model to enhance in-car experiences and smart driving, further intensifying competition. Companies like Geely Auto, Leapmotor, and GAC Group aim to improve voice commands, human-machine interactions, and autonomous driving capabilities.
