Tesla’s Cybertruck design, characterized by its angular stainless-steel exoskeleton, has raised concerns among safety experts. Six safety professors and officials viewed crash test videos of the electric pickup and expressed worries about potential harm to pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. The stiff stainless-steel structure could cause more damage in collisions, particularly to pedestrians. While Tesla emphasized impact-absorbing structures during the crash, experts stated that firm conclusions would require access to detailed crash-test data. Some experts pointed to the limited “crumple zones,” while others raised concerns about the heavy weight of the truck. Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed confidence in the Cybertruck’s safety, but concerns persist among safety professionals. Critics have also raised issues about potential challenges in meeting European safety rules, particularly related to pedestrian protection.
