Tensions in the Middle East continued to rise after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said two oil tankers exploded after hitting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran warned ships against using unauthorized routes, raising concerns about shipping safety and rising global trade costs. Meanwhile, the United States has increased its military presence in the region, amid reports of possible military action against Iran.
Fighting between Saudi-led forces and Yemen’s Houthi group also continued. Saudi Arabia reported intercepting missiles and drones, while the Houthis claimed to have shot down a Saudi helicopter and accused coalition forces of carrying out airstrikes. Some of these claims have not been independently verified.
