A shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday has left 16 people dead, making it Australia’s deadliest mass shooting since 1996. Police said 14 victims died at the scene and two later died in hospital, with victims aged between 10 and 87. Around 40 people were injured, including five in critical condition.
Authorities identified the alleged attackers as a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son. The older suspect, a licensed gun owner, was shot dead during the incident. The attack occurred during a Hanukkah event attended by about 1,000 people and has been classified as terrorism. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the violence and pledged to fight antisemitism, while the motive remains under investigation.
