Spain fully deploys floating barrier as Ceuta death toll rises to 72

Spain has fully deployed a floating sea barrier along the maritime border of its North African enclave of Ceuta as authorities strengthen border controls following a major migrant influx from Morocco. The barrier, installed near Tarajal Beach, aims to prevent further irregular sea crossings after tens of thousands of migrants entered the enclave in recent days.

Authorities said the official death toll from the crisis had risen to 72, while 88 bodies remain in Ceuta’s morgue as identification efforts continue. Although arrivals have decreased, police and military forces remain deployed across the city, carrying out security operations and processing migrants for possible deportation.

The migrant surge has become one of Spain’s most serious border challenges in recent years, leading to emergency measures and renewed discussions across Europe over migration management and border security.
