SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission, which featured the first spacewalk by non-government astronauts, ended successfully with a splashdown off the coast of Florida on Sunday morning. The Dragon spacecraft returned to Earth at 0737 GMT, and the crew, including engineers Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis, pilot Scott Poteet, and commander Jared Isaacman, were safely recovered. The crew, launched Tuesday, reached a record altitude of 1,400 kilometers, completing over 40 experiments during their journey. Polaris Dawn is the first of three missions, with the final mission aiming to be the first crewed flight of SpaceX’s Starship.
