South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and nominated Choi Byung-hyuk, the ambassador to Saudi Arabia and a former army general, as the new defense minister. Kim resigned after proposing emergency martial law, which was briefly imposed on Tuesday night but repealed the next day following a parliamentary vote against it. Kim apologized for causing public concern and confusion, taking full responsibility for the situation.
