South Korea’s opposition parties reintroduced a bill on Thursday to appoint a special counsel to investigate impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol over insurrection charges. The bill, backed by six opposition parties, comes after a previous version failed due to opposition from the ruling People Power Party. To pass, the bill requires a two-thirds majority in the 300-member National Assembly. The new proposal limits the investigation period to 150 days and the number of prosecutors and investigators to 155. Yoon, accused of declaring martial law on December 3, had his presidential powers suspended following his impeachment on December 14, pending a constitutional court decision.
