Singapore’s ruling party, the People’s Action Party (PAP), won the 2025 general election with 65.57% of the votes, up from 61.24% in 2020. The PAP secured 87 out of 97 seats in Parliament and will govern 30 out of 33 areas in the country.
The opposition Workers’ Party (WP) kept its 10 seats, holding onto its three main areas in eastern Singapore. No other opposition party won any seats.
This election was the first led by new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who took over from Lee Hsien Loong in May 2024. Analysts say the strong results show that Singaporeans trust the PAP during uncertain times, especially after new U.S. trade tariffs that may affect the economy.
The WP, while not gaining new seats, remained strong in areas like Hougang, Aljunied, and Sengkang. In Sengkang, their support grew to 56.31% of the vote, up from 52.12% in 2020.
Voter turnout was high, with 92.47% of eligible voters casting their ballots.
