The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Digital Economy Forum opened in Tianjin, China, under the theme “New Bonds in the Digital Economy, New Horizons for Cooperation.” Co-hosted by China’s National Data Administration and the Tianjin city government, the event brought together officials, business leaders, and academics from SCO member states to promote collaboration in digital development.
Key highlights included the signing of 21 digital economy projects worth over 1.35 billion yuan ($186 million) and a showcase of state-owned enterprises’ advances in AI, big data, IoT, and smart manufacturing. The forum featured a main forum, four themed sub-forums, and interactive experiences covering cross-border data flows, digital infrastructure, smart cities, and talent development.
Tianjin’s digital economy has been rapidly growing, with core industries contributing 9.4% to the city’s GDP in early 2025. The forum marks a major step in advancing China’s national digital strategy and enhancing SCO-wide digital cooperation.
