A team of scientists from Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, has begun a three-week research trip to the Southern Ocean to study how human activity is affecting the atmosphere. They left Hobart on April 29 and will return on May 18. The team will compare air quality far from land with data from Cape Grim, a site known for measuring some of the world’s cleanest air. The goal is to understand how pollution, like smoke and greenhouse gases, affects the climate, especially in the Southern Hemisphere. This research will help improve global climate forecasting.
