Samsung Electronics has revealed its slimmest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, aiming to win over young customers and outpace Apple in the high-end market.
The new phone, just 5.8 mm thick with a 6.7-inch screen, includes upgraded artificial intelligence features and a more portable design. Samsung said it made internal changes to make the device thinner without affecting performance.
“Younger users want slimmer, easy-to-carry phones that still work great,” the company said.
Analysts believe Samsung launched the phone now to beat Apple, which is expected to release a thinner iPhone later this year.
The Galaxy S25 Edge will go on sale in South Korea on May 23 and in the U.S. on May 30. It will also launch in about 30 other countries, including China and parts of Europe. Prices will start at $1,099.
The phone includes Samsung’s latest AI tools, including features that let users talk to the phone using both voice and the camera.
Samsung did not say where the phone is being made.
According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung was the top smartphone seller globally in the first quarter of 2025 with 20% of the market, just ahead of Apple at 19%. But Samsung warned that sales could slow in the second quarter due to possible tariffs
