South Korea began nationwide presidential elections early Tuesday, running from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time at over 14,000 polling stations. The election was called after former President Yoon Suk-yeol was removed from office over a failed martial law attempt. Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, who narrowly lost to Yoon in 2022, is leading in the polls with around 50% support, ahead of People Power Party’s Kim Moon-soo, who has about 30%. Early voting on May 29–30 saw a turnout of 34.74% from over 44 million eligible voters.
