Sergei Shoigu said Russia is concerned about Japan’s growing military capabilities, warning that the country is gradually moving away from its post-World War II commitments.
Speaking at the International Security Forum in Moscow on Thursday, Shoigu said Japan has already acquired medium- and short-range missiles and is continuing to strengthen its military. He also expressed concern over a proposed “Asian NATO” bill in the United States.
Shoigu warned that the possibility of nuclear weapons appearing in the Asia-Pacific region cannot be ruled out. More than 150 delegations from over 120 countries attended the forum to discuss global security and international issues.
