Russia launched a Soyuz-2.1a rocket carrying the Progress MS-33 cargo spacecraft from a repaired pad at Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, on Sunday—the first flight from the site since damage last November.
The spacecraft lifted off at 1200 GMT and is scheduled to dock with the Russian segment’s Poisk module on March 24, delivering over 2.5 tonnes of cargo. One antenna used for automatic docking failed to fully deploy, so cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov will perform a manual docking. Roscosmos said all other systems are functioning normally.
The Baikonur Cosmodrome, operated by Russia under a lease through at least 2050, had its Site 31 launch pad repaired after part of it collapsed during the Soyuz MS-28 launch last year, temporarily grounding crewed and cargo missions to the ISS.
