Russia bombards Kyiv in deadliest strike this year, killing at least 27 people

Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Kyiv early Thursday, killing at least 27 people and injuring more than 90, according to Ukrainian officials. Around 74 missiles and nearly 500 drones were fired, causing major explosions, fires, and damage to about 130 buildings across the capital. Residents rushed into shelters and metro stations as smoke filled the city skyline. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cut short his trip abroad and blamed delays in Western air defense support for the scale of the destruction. Russia said the strikes targeted military and energy sites and were in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. Kyiv has declared a day of mourning as rescue operations continue.
