A magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck Wushi County in Aksu Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, at 2:09 a.m. on Tuesday. Rescue forces, including the Wushi County fire and rescue team and Aksu Prefecture’s fire and rescue detachment, have been mobilized. A total of 182 vehicles, 800 people, and 32 dogs are on standby for disaster relief. The Xinjiang regional fire and rescue department has allocated relief materials, including cold-proof clothing, tents, quilts, folding beds, and heaters. China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has activated a level-3 emergency response and sent rescue teams to the affected area. Over the past year, Xinjiang has experienced 293 earthquakes, with the latest one being the strongest.
