China marked the 89th anniversary of the July 7 Incident, which marked the beginning of the country’s full-scale resistance against Japanese aggression during World War II. The commemoration also highlighted newly released historical evidence, including documents detailing wartime human experiments by Japan’s Unit 731, with experts stressing the importance of preserving historical truth and remembering the victims.
The report also raised concerns over historical revisionism, saying some newly approved Japanese high school textbooks reduce or downplay coverage of wartime events such as the Nanjing Massacre and the “comfort women” issue. Chinese scholars said accurately remembering history is essential to promoting peace and preventing the mistakes of the past from being repeated.
