Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a speech at the 20th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur, calling for unity, cooperation, and reform amid global turbulence. He emphasized that the summit’s founding mission—equality, partnership, and improving people’s well-being—remains vital after 20 years.
Li urged countries to uphold multilateralism, international law, and common values such as fairness and mutual respect. He warned against protectionism, stressing the need to strengthen free trade, boost regional integration, and support developing nations’ growth.
He also called for safeguarding the UN-centered international system, supporting ASEAN’s central role, and promoting reforms for a fairer global governance structure. China, he said, will work with all parties under President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative to advance peace and development in the region.
