Record heat grips southern Europe

Southern Europe is facing an intense heatwave, with record-high temperatures and severe impacts. The Mediterranean Sea hit its highest-ever average June temperature at 26.01°C. France saw temperatures up to 41°C, prompting red alerts, school closures, and reactor shutdowns. Spain recorded a June high of 46°C, with multiple heat-related deaths reported. Portugal broke its June temperature record with 46.6°C, triggering red alerts and extreme wildfire risks. Slovenia experienced its hottest, driest, and sunniest June since 1950. Scientists link these extremes to climate change and urge urgent action.
