Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure in nine regions, as retaliation for Ukraine’s use of U.S. ATACMS missiles against Russian territory. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed this marked the West’s “direct involvement” in the conflict and threatened further strikes, possibly on decision-making centers in Kyiv, using the Oreshnik missile, which he says is immune to interception.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Putin of escalating the war to undermine U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s future peace efforts. Zelenskyy is coordinating with Western leaders to counter Russia’s actions and prevent prolonged conflict.
