Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire in Ukraine to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II. Fighting will pause from midnight May 7–8 until midnight May 10–11 for humanitarian reasons. Russia asked Ukraine to respect the ceasefire but warned it would respond if Ukraine violated it. Putin also repeated Russia’s offer for peace talks without conditions. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha criticized the delay, saying if Russia truly wants peace, it should stop fighting immediately, not wait until May 8. He said Ukraine is ready to support a real, lasting ceasefire.
