Chinese President Xi Jinping, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev celebrated the signing of an intergovernmental agreement for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project via video link. Xi emphasized the railway’s strategic importance for China-Central Asia connectivity and as a key Belt and Road initiative. The agreement solidifies the legal foundation for the project’s construction, turning the vision into reality. China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan aim to expedite the project, which will benefit all three nations.
Japarov highlighted the railway as a vital new transport link between Asia, Europe, and the Persian Gulf, enhancing connectivity and economic trade in the region. Mirziyoyev noted it as the shortest land route from China to Central Asia, opening significant markets in South Asia and the Middle East, and fostering regional cooperation.
The railway will start in Kashgar, China’s Xinjiang region, pass through Kyrgyzstan, and reach Uzbekistan, with potential future extensions to West and South Asia.
