Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing on Monday, urging both countries to strengthen and elevate their bilateral relationship. Xi highlighted the progress made since China and Spain marked the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties last year and emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in areas like artificial intelligence, digital economy, and new energy. Xi also encouraged stronger cultural exchanges and collaboration in international forums, calling for Spain to continue supporting a fair business environment for Chinese companies.
Sanchez, meanwhile, highlighted recent cooperation agreements in green development and expressed Spain’s commitment to enhancing trade, cultural exchanges, and new energy partnerships. He reaffirmed Spain’s strategic view of its relationship with China, commitment to the one-China policy, and desire to contribute to global peace and stability. Both leaders discussed global challenges, including the Ukraine crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and expressed shared support for multilateralism and free trade.
