President Xi hails ‘unstoppable’ national rejuvenation at V-Day commemoration

On September 3, 2025, China held a grand ceremony in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

President Xi Jinping said the anniversary is a moment to remember history, honor fallen heroes, cherish peace, and build a better future. He paid tribute to veterans, patriots, and Chinese at home and abroad, while also thanking foreign nations that supported China during the war.

Xi emphasized that the war was China’s first complete victory against foreign aggression in modern times, achieved through unity and immense sacrifice. He said China contributed greatly to defending world peace and must continue promoting equality, harmony, and mutual support among nations.

On the military front, Xi stressed the need to build the PLA into a world-class military, safeguarding sovereignty and national unity. The anniversary parade showcased new weapons and equipment, reflecting progress in modernization and reforms from the past decade—such as cutting troop numbers, reorganizing the military, and enhancing capabilities in land, sea, air, space, and nuclear deterrence.

At the same time, Xi said China remains committed to a path of peaceful development and will work with other countries to address global security challenges. He highlighted initiatives like the Global Development, Security, Civilization, and Governance Initiatives as part of building a “community with a shared future for humanity.”

In closing, Xi called on all Chinese people to stay united under the CPC’s leadership and strive for national rejuvenation through modernization.
