Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed willingness to collaborate with Dominica to align their development strategies, leveraging their friendly relations to foster win-win cooperation for the benefit of both nations. During a meeting with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in Beijing, Xi highlighted Dominica’s significance in the Caribbean and underscored the mutual respect and equality characterizing their 20-year diplomatic relationship.
Xi emphasized the importance of political trust and mutual support on core interests for the advancement of China-Dominica ties. He affirmed China’s support for Dominica’s development path and pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and education. China also aims to boost cultural and people-to-people exchanges, offering scholarships and training programs while encouraging more Dominican students to study in China.
Moreover, Xi reiterated China’s commitment to a multipolar world and inclusive globalization, emphasizing support for small island developing countries like Dominica in addressing climate change and participating in international affairs. He proposed strengthening coordination and cooperation to advance South-South cooperation and build a community with a shared future for mankind.
In response, Skerrit expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support during natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. He endorsed Xi’s vision of building a shared future and pledged adherence to the one-China principle, supporting China’s reunification and opposing interference in its internal affairs. Skerrit expressed Dominica’s readiness to deepen cooperation with China, aiming to elevate bilateral relations and contribute positively to global peace and development.
