A plane from the Malawi Defense Force carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others went missing on Monday, according to Colleen Zamba, the Secretary to the President and Cabinet. The aircraft failed to land at Mzuzu Airport at the scheduled time of 10:02 a.m. local time. Efforts to contact the plane after it went off the radar have been unsuccessful. President Lazarus Chakwera has ordered an immediate search and rescue operation involving the Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Police Service, and other agencies, focusing on Chikangawa Forest near Mzuzu City. Chakwera has canceled his trip to the Bahamas for an Afreximbank meeting. The vice president was en route to the funeral of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Ralph Kasambara, who was found dead in Lilongwe and buried in his home village near Mzuzu Airport.
