Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos declared a one-year state of national calamity after Typhoon Kalmaegi caused massive destruction.
The order, signed on November 5, allows the government to use emergency funds, control prices of essential goods, and give no-interest loans to affected sectors. Authorities were also directed to restore normalcy and maintain peace in disaster-hit areas.
Kalmaegi killed 224 people, injured over 500, and left more than 100 missing.
Meanwhile, the country is preparing for Super Typhoon Fung-wong, a Category 5 storm expected to make landfall soon with winds up to 230 km/h, bringing heavy rain, flooding, and landslides.
