Paris Olympic 2024 closes after two weeks of intense games

The Paris Olympic Games concluded on August 11 after two weeks of competition. France’s Leon Marchand, who won four gold medals and one bronze, extinguished the Olympic flame, which will be relit in Los Angeles for the 2028 Games.

China and the United States tied for the most gold medals with 40 each. France won 16 golds, while Australia and Japan won 18 and 20, respectively. On the final day, China’s Li Wenwen won gold in women’s +81kg weightlifting, and the U.S. women’s basketball team secured gold against France. Japan’s Kagami Yuka won gold in women’s freestyle 76kg wrestling.

Controversies included American gymnast Jordan Chiles being ordered to return her bronze medal in floor exercise after an overturned appeal. The next Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 to July 30, 2028.
