Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh on Tuesday called on the international community to pressure Israel to respect the sovereignty of the State of Palestine.
Speaking at a meeting in Ramallah with diplomats and international officials, al-Sheikh urged “real and effective pressure” to halt what he described as ongoing Israeli violations, including military operations in Gaza, a blockade worsening humanitarian conditions, increased settler attacks in the West Bank, land seizures and the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
He also criticized recent Israeli decisions altering the legal and civil status of the West Bank, including measures to ease Jewish land purchases and expand Israeli administrative control in certain areas. Israel captured the West Bank in 1967 and has since established settlements there, which are widely regarded by the international community as illegal under international law.
