Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to provide military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia under their Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, which says an attack on one of the three countries would be treated as an attack on all. The agreement was discussed at an emergency meeting in Riyadh as tensions and security threats involving Yemen’s Houthis continue to grow.
The announcement comes as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces launch a major offensive against the Houthis. Yemeni forces said they had retaken the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait and Zubab Airport, but the Houthis denied the claim and said fighting was still underway. Saudi-led coalition forces also said around 100 fighter jets took part in the operation, carrying out strikes on 324 targets.
