On Wednesday, Pakistan claimed to have shot down five Indian jets after India reported targeting nine “terrorist-training camps” in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. This came after a terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian-controlled Kashmir, in which 26 people were killed, and India blamed Pakistan-based militants.
India’s defense ministry said the airstrikes were focused and measured, targeting specific sites without harming military facilities. In response, Pakistan said at least eight civilians, including a child, were killed, and many others were injured by Indian missile attacks on several locations.
Pakistan condemned India’s actions as a violation of its sovereignty and claimed the Indian Air Force targeted civilians in multiple districts. Pakistani officials also stated they had shot down five Indian jets and that Indian military positions along the border were vacated after Pakistan’s retaliatory fire.
