China’s Ministry of Public Security said that over 920 Chinese people suspected of telecom fraud were handed over by Myanmar police. This is part of a joint effort between China and Myanmar to stop telecom fraud.
The suspects were caught in Myanmar since March 24 and sent to China through the Daluo port in Yunnan Province. This follows earlier actions in November when large fraud centers near the China-Myanmar border were shut down.
Some suspects tried to escape by moving deeper into Myanmar, but Chinese police helped Myanmar find them by sharing important information. This led to more fraud centers being discovered and shut down.
China said it will keep working with Myanmar to stop cross-border telecom fraud. The ministry also told those still involved in fraud to give themselves up and return to China to possibly get lighter punishment.
