New York City began spraying for mosquitoes on Monday night to reduce the risk of West Nile virus as concerns about the disease grow. Trucks from the city’s health department applied pesticides in Central Park and Upper Manhattan, with more spraying planned in parts of Brooklyn, including Bay Ridge and Coney Island. The West Nile virus, spread through mosquito bites, has caused over 280 cases across 33 U.S. states this year. NYC has confirmed six cases, with no hospitalizations so far. The city is closely monitoring mosquito populations, and health officials are urging residents to remove stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.
