New York appeals court denies Trump bid to halt hush money sentencing

A New York appellate court has denied President-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to delay his sentencing on Friday for criminal charges related to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels. The sentencing, set 10 days before Trump’s inauguration, follows a Manhattan jury’s May conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Justice Juan Merchan rejected Trump’s prior requests to dismiss the case, citing its focus on personal conduct. While Merchan indicated Trump would likely face an unconditional discharge, the case marks the first criminal conviction of a U.S. president. Trump has called the proceedings politically motivated.
