The Afghan suspect accused of ambushing two West Virginia National Guard members near the White House will now face first-degree murder charges. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the attack was premeditated, and more charges are expected. One Guardsman, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, died from her injuries, while 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe remains in critical condition. Authorities are also investigating the shooting as a possible terrorist incident.
In response, President Donald Trump called the attack terrorism and announced he would halt migration from “Third World countries,” escalating his immigration rhetoric on Truth Social. He also ordered a review of asylum approvals and green cards issued under the Biden administration, particularly for nationals of 19 countries currently under a travel ban, including Afghanistan.
