Rocket Lab USA Inc., a California-based aerospace manufacturer and launch service provider, has been chosen by NASA to launch the Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment (PREFIRE) mission. This mission aims to enhance the accuracy of measuring the energy entering and exiting Earth, with a particular focus on the Arctic and Antarctica regions. By addressing a gap in knowledge regarding Earth’s heat loss into space, PREFIRE will contribute to improved climate and ice models. This will enable more accurate predictions about the impact of global warming on factors like sea ice loss, ice sheet melting, and rising sea levels.
