A NASA analysis revealed that the average global temperatures for each of the past 12 months have hit record highs, marking an unprecedented streak. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson emphasized the severity of the climate crisis, noting the widespread impact of extreme heat. The average global temperature over the past year was 1.30 degrees Celsius above the 20th-century baseline (1951-1980). This data, gathered from extensive weather stations and ocean instruments, highlights a long-term warming trend driven by human activities, particularly greenhouse gas emissions. NASA’s chief scientist, Kate Calvin, pointed out the increasing frequency of hot days, months, and years, stressing the global impacts on people and ecosystems. The past decade has been the warmest on record since the late 19th century.
