According to The Mirror, Myanmar plans to plant 21.36 million tree saplings at more than 30,000 forest plantation sites nationwide during the current rainy season.
The country’s first national-level monsoon tree-planting ceremony of 2026 was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday and attended by President U Min Aung Hlaing. He said forest conservation should be prioritized as a long-term investment for economic stability and sustainable development, adding that tree planting is one of the most practical and cost-effective ways to address climate change and environmental challenges.
Myanmar planted more than 269.8 million trees between 2016 and 2025. The country aims to designate 30 percent of its land area as reserved and protected forests, with 26.11 percent already under protection.
