Elon Musk, appointed by Donald Trump to cut government waste, threatened to fire federal workers who didn’t justify their jobs in an email. However, the U.S. government said employees weren’t required to respond. Many ignored the request, leading Musk to say they’d get another chance before being fired. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) clarified that no one would be dismissed for not replying and warned against sharing sensitive information. Despite this, some agencies still encouraged responses. Musk’s downsizing plan, called DOGE, has also led to layoffs and financial delays for companies working with the government.
