The 2025 IAA Mobility show, one of the world’s largest mobility trade fairs, opened Tuesday in Munich with China emerging as the largest source of foreign exhibitors. Of the 55 percent of international participants, 116 companies are from China, including EV makers BYD, Xpeng, Leapmotor, battery giant CATL, and tech firms like Zhuoyu and DeepRoute.ai.
German automakers Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz unveiled new electric models on home soil, while Chinese brands showcased vehicles both in exhibition halls and across central Munich, where more than 200 cars are on public display.
Running alongside the fair, the World New Energy Vehicle Congress returned for its second overseas edition, focusing on Sino-German cooperation in e-mobility, artificial intelligence, and supply chains.
Industry expert Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer said closer collaboration between Europe and China is essential for industrial transformation, noting that while U.S. tariff measures disrupt global trade, Europe benefits from Chinese strengths in digitalization and smart vehicle technologies.
