Scorching heat has caused more than 20 deaths in various states of India, NDTV reported on Friday. In the eastern state of Bihar, 15 people died in the Aurangabad district, while another 10 deaths occurred in Rourkela city, Odisha. Some media sources suggest the death toll in Bihar could exceed 50, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Northwest and central India have been enduring severe heat wave conditions for weeks. In New Delhi, the temperature in the Mungeshpur neighborhood hit a record high of 52.9 degrees Celsius (127.22°F) on Wednesday.
