MI Radio Hands Over the Rising Star Fund to YUFL

Myanmar International Radio (MI Radio) presented the Rising Star Fund to Yangon University of Foreign Languages (YUFL) on Monday in a special ceremony. The fund aims to create more opportunities for students in the media industry and other sectors, further strengthening the partnership between MI Radio and YUFL.

Over the years, MI Radio and YUFL have worked together on various initiatives, including internships, social campaigns, and competitions such as short video contests, vlogs, and article writing. These collaborative efforts have laid a strong foundation for nurturing young talent and fostering creative expression.

In 2024, building on this partnership, MI Radio introduced an internship program for YUFL students, offering positions such as radio hosts, translators, scriptwriters, and media assistants. The program received over 50 applications, with nine students from different specialized majors ultimately selected.

Ko Zaw Min Htet, Head of Studio Operations at MI Radio, explained that the Rising Star Fund recognizes the hard work of interns and aligns with MI Radio’s mission of empowering young talent. While not a joint initiative, the fund can be used for various activities at YUFL, such as debate shows and entertainment events, further enhancing student engagement.

As part of the 2024 internship program, students gained hands-on experience in various aspects of radio production, including news writing, translation, scriptwriting, voice acting, and the responsibilities of a Radio DJ. They also appeared as special guests on MI Radio’s show Pyaw Kya Mal, which was broadcast on radio and is set to premiere on social media platforms soon. These episodes, featuring topics selected by the students, were created in collaboration with MI Radio DJs, DJ Phyo Su and DJ Zwe.

The rector of YUFL, Dr. Kyi Shwin, expressed gratitude to MI Radio for providing these opportunities, emphasizing the positive impact they have had on students. He also highlighted the U-Fly Program, a project previously produced by YUFL students, which will soon air as a special segment on MI Radio. This milestone further reflects the creative synergy between the university and MI Radio.

Looking ahead, MI Radio plans to collaborate with YUFL on even more exciting projects, ensuring continued support for students and innovative initiatives in the years to come.
