Lionel Messi scored a stunning free kick to lead Inter Miami to a 2-1 comeback win over Porto in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage. Porto had taken an early lead through a penalty by Samu Omorodion, but Telasco Segovia equalized for Miami just after halftime. Messi then sealed the victory in the 54th minute with a trademark goal, curling the ball into the top corner as fans chanted his name.
Both teams had drawn their opening Group A matches. Inter Miami now needs a win against Brazil’s Palmeiras on Monday to secure a place in the round of 16, while Porto must beat Egypt’s Al-Ahly in their final group match.
In the same group, Palmeiras defeated Al-Ahly 2-0, with help from an own goal by Wessam Abou Ali and a second goal from Jose Lopez. The game was briefly halted due to a thunderstorm, but resumed in front of a crowd of about 35,000. Four yellow cards were issued, and one red card was overturned after VAR review.
