Health authorities in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, have issued a measles warning for western Sydney following a confirmed case in the region. The individual, who had recently returned from Vietnam, where a large measles outbreak is ongoing, was infectious while in western Sydney earlier in January. People who visited a doctor’s clinic in Berala on January 18 are advised to monitor for symptoms, which include fever, sore eyes, runny nose, cough, and a red, blotchy rash that typically starts on the head and spreads. Symptoms may take up to 18 days to appear. The measles-mumps-rubella vaccine is available for free to those in NSW born after 1965 who haven’t had two doses.
