Manchester United hire former Manchester City executive Berrada as CEO

Manchester United has announced the appointment of Omar Berrada, former chief football operations officer at Manchester City, as their new CEO. The move is seen as part of Manchester United’s commitment to refocusing on football and on-field performance. Berrada had been with Manchester City in various roles since September 2020 and played a significant role in the club’s successful development.

Omar Berrada’s departure from Manchester City was confirmed in a statement where the club expressed understanding of his decision to seek new challenges and wished him well. The hiring of Berrada by Manchester United was led by Jim Ratcliffe, who owns 25 percent of the club’s shares. The decision was reportedly agreed upon by the Glazers, the majority owners of Manchester United. This appointment follows the club’s period without a CEO since the resignation of Richard Arnold in November 2023. The arrival of Berrada marks the first major appointment under Ratcliffe’s ownership and the first time the club has hired a chief executive externally. The club expressed ambitions to re-establish itself as a title-winning club and sees Berrada’s appointment as a step towards achieving that goal.
