The match took a turn in the 26th minute when Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu accidentally scored an own goal, giving City a 2-1 lead. From that point, City dominated the game, with second-half goals from Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Savinho. Haaland’s goal marked the 300th of his career for the club. Jeremy Doku had opened the scoring in the 9th minute, while Juventus briefly equalized through Teun Koopmeiners. Dusan Vlahovic added a late goal for Juventus. City midfielder Rodri made his return to the starting lineup after knee ligament surgery, playing until the 66th minute. Manchester City will face the Group H runners-up on June 30 in Orlando, while Juventus will play the Group H winners on July 1 in Miami Gardens.
In the other Group G match, Al Ain defeated Wydad Casablanca 2-1 in Washington, though both teams had already been eliminated from the tournament. Wydad took an early lead with a fourth-minute goal from Cassius Mailula, who is currently on loan from Toronto FC. Al Ain equalized just before halftime with a penalty by Kodjo Laba, confirmed by video review. Paraguayan international Kaku scored the winning goal in the 50th minute. Wydad’s head coach, Mohamed Amine Benhachem, was on crutches due to a recent car accident, though no serious injuries were reported.
