French President Emmanuel Macron ruled out appointing a left-wing government to resolve France’s political deadlock, citing concerns about “institutional stability.” After the July elections gave the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) the most seats but not a governing majority, Macron has been in talks to find a new prime minister. Despite demands from the hard-left France Unbowed (LFI) to form a government, centrist and right-wing parties are likely to block such an attempt in a confidence vote. Macron called for cooperation among political forces, but LFI leaders criticized his stance as undemocratic. Macron continues to search for a prime minister with enough support to pass a confidence vote before presenting the 2025 budget.
